WILMINGTON, DE — Presidential portraits, coin cleaning chemistry, special vocal performances, and more to be featured this Presidents’ Day Weekend at the Delaware Children’s Museum (DCM), as we get ready to celebrate our founding fathers through play.
The holiday weekend kicks off with a “Presidential Scavenger Hunt” that will keep the kids busy learning about our U.S. Presidents while they play and explore in theMuseum’s interactive exhibitions. Once completed, families can enter their scavenger hunt into a drawing to win a prize package filled with fun and educational toys, games, and books from the DCM’s Fun in Store gift shop. Daily, hands-on programs throughout the three-day weekend include: Experimenting with different household ingredients to discover how to best make the Presidents’ faces shine bright on old pennies, nickels, and dimes during “Coin Cleaning Chemistry;” exploring our new, special art exhibition, “Etch A Sketch® People, Presidents, and Places,” that features illustrations of all 44 U.S. Presidents on Etch A Sketch toys; constructing spinning tops and slingshots during our engineering programs; building castles, monuments, and forts during the DCM’s “Block Party;” and designing Winter Olympics-inspired art in the studio.
In addition to the programs above, the Presidents’ Day Holiday on Monday, February 17, will feature local numismatist Scott Vogel who will showcase his vast coin collection and answer questions about coins and paper money during “Show Me the Money.”And for an extra treat, The Imagination Players (a local troupe of energetic and talented youth, ranging in ages from seven to 17) will appear at the DCM for two special vocal performances, as part of their Presidents’ Day Goodwill Tour across New Castle County.
