Because the performing arts are an integral dimension of life and historic buildings are a valuable segment of American culture, The Grand Opera House will strive to expand people’s horizons by presenting a wide variety of artistically acclaimed performers and by preserving one of Delaware’s architectural landmarks.
The Grand is an 1,190-seat Victorian opera house, which has been meticulously restored to its original grandeur and outfitted to serve Delaware as a performance facility. It features a proscenium stage, orchestra pit, loading lift, and additional seating at floor level. The facility is able to accommodate full operas and major dance companies. Its programming will reflect and celebrate cultural diversity of our community and will provide educational opportunities helping to ensure culturally literate generations of audiences.
The Grand presents in excess of 100 performances, which range from full symphony orchestras, dance and opera to stand-up comedians, jazz, world culture, events, and programs for young people. Some of the world’s most famous touring classical musicians, pop entertainers and artists in a variety of disciplines consider The Grand to be among the best venues in the country because of its acoustics and intimacy.
